Abstract
<p>Few studieshaveinvestigatedmentalhealthservicesspecificallyservingdeafand hard of hearing people. This study summarizes data reported by 40 specialized mental health programs for deaf and hard of hearing adults in the United States between 2001-2003. Deaf programs within larger mental health organizations were significantly more likely to serve clients diagnosed with a psychotic disorder. These integrated service programs were less likely to serve clients who are Caucasian and those who pay for services using private insurance. Integrated programs serve clients with more serious psychiatric disorders. Further comparisons of medical records, service quality, and outcomes are needed.</p>
