Abstract
The Social Sciences Journal was created to serve three primary purposes: to give Western Connecticut State University
undergraduate students an outlet in which to publish original research in the social sciences, to gain firsthand experience with
the submission and publication process, and to provide valuable leadership and collaborative scholarship opportunities for the
student editors involved in the production process. The WCSU Department of Social Sciences wanted to encourage student-led
research and promote student-faculty projects. Also, the journal provides a show case for students' original research, and an
avenue to communicate information about the programs and activities of department faculty. Finally, the published journal
serves as a pedagogical tool for students enrolled in and faculty teaching WCSU social sciences courses.
