    Abstract
This thesis contains the first 12 chapters and synopsis of a novella. Song for Sunrise is set in the dreams of Lucille, a college student who falls into a coma after a failed attempt at suicide. Lucille accidentally struck her younger neighborhood friend, Dawn in an auto accident. Lucille's guilt is amplified when the community and Dawn's parents sympathize with her rather than condemning her. After three years, the plug to Lucille's life support system is pulled, and her brain becomes slightly active as she dies. She dreams up a world of vibrant environments during her final moments. Dawn comes back to life within the dreams as a way for Lucille to cope with the trauma and organize all the emotions involved with losing a loved one.
