AbstractSapna Chaya was born in 1972 in Bombay, India. After her marriage, her husband, who worked for General Electric in India, was transferred to the United States. General Electric sponsored the immigration of the family, which now included a young daughter. Once in the Danbury area, Sapna Chaya explains the difficulties her daughter had at daycare because she did not speak English. She describes teaching her daughter about Indian culture and the family's continued celebration and observation of Indian cultural traditions. The family also celebrates certain American holidays because they do not want their daughter to feel left out at school.
